Twenty fire departments across Sonoma\, Lake and Mendocino counties are joining forces with Vitalant for the 20th Annual Bucket Brigade Blood Drive Challenge\, a friendly competition to see which department can rally the most blood donors this December and January. Blood donations typically drop more than 20% during the holiday season\, with the last two weeks of December historically being the slowest donation period of the year. Yet the need for blood remains constant. Patients do not get to take a vacation from needing lifesaving blood. That's why the support of our local fire departments is so vital with their outreach inspiring community members to step up and donate during a time when the blood supply is at its most vulnerable.
