On Thursday, January 24, at 7:00 pm the Soper Reese Theatre will screen the first of a four-part series chosen from the award winning Art In the Twenty-First Century (Art21) program produced by PBS. Viewers will travel the world to meet the leading creative visual artists of our time who draw upon their relationships with the locations and people where they live and work. The January show visits the San Francisco Bay Area and meets with Katy Grannan, Stephanie Syjuco, Lynn Hershman Leeson, and various artists from the Creative Growth Art Center in Oakland. The work of these ground-breaking artists can be seen in collections at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and The Guggenheim Museum, and can be found in the modern art collections of the New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Smithsonian Museums. Future Segments in the Series On February 21 the series travels to Johannesburg, South Africa for a look at the innovative styles of David Goldblatt, Nicholas Hlobo, Zanele Muholi and Robin Rhode; and on March 21 ground breaking Berlin artists, Nathalie Djurberg, Hans Berg, Olafur Elasson, Hiwa K, and Susan Philipsz talk about how and why they create. The final show, on April 25, looks at the subject of Ecology and takes viewers behind the scenes to experience the creative processes of four international artists. The series is sponsored by Michael Adams and by an anonymous donor. Donations gratefully accepted at the door. The Soper Reese Theatre is located at 275 So. Main St., Lakeport.
