Join us for a Guided Nature Walk On Saturday, March 11 See the dramatic changes that the Winter rains have brought to Anderson Marsh. Anderson Marsh is experiencing its first high water in over seven years. Come see the lush green that a wet Northern California winter brings to Anderson Marsh State Historic Park. Meet in the parking lot at 8:15am for time to experience the early morning wildlife to be found in the Ranch House and Barn complex yard – the walk begins at 8:30am. Bring your binoculars and shoes that can handle a little mud and water. The walk should take. Rain will cancel the walk. There will not be a Ranch House tour after this walk. Join Certified California Naturalist and Park Docent Billy Gear as he leads a leisurely 1 ½ - 2 hour walk. Depending on the condition of the trails, the guided walk will start along the grasslands of Anderson Flats, go up the hill past a vernal pool and then take the Ridge or Marsh Trails. Winter brings many migrating birds to the Park, some to rest in the waters of Cache Creek and Anderson Marsh or in the nearby trees. This is a unique opportunity to see something that hasn’t been seen in a while – the Anderson Marsh flatlands when the water is high. The high water has flooded portions of the Park grasslands and Canada geese, white egrets, great blue herons, white pelicans, double crested cormorants, wood ducks, mallards, mergansers and river otters have been seen in what is normally the dry area of the Anderson Flats. There is no charge and parking is free for those attending this event. Anderson Marsh State Historic Park is located on Hwy 53, between Lower Lake and Clearlake.
