October is “Big Read” Month in Lake County and the focus this year is the wonderful short novel Call of the Wild by Jack London. Together with Bert Hutt and Murder Us Productions of Lakeport, the Tallman Hotel will be hosting an original Mystery Dinner based on the theme of the book. Period costumes are optional but encouraged. The scene is a rowdy saloon in Dawson, Yukon Territory during the Alaskan Gold Rush at the turn of the 20th Century. There are a lot of rowdy characters in the saloon, including the canine star of the book, Buck, together with his master Joe Thornton. A murder occurs and you will be spending an enjoyable evening solving the mystery. Meet at 5:30 for drinks and appetizers in the Blue Wing Saloon followed by a delicious dinner in the Tallman Dining Room at which time clues to the Mystery will be distributed by the Murder Us cast. Then coffee is served in the Tallman Meeting House as the mystery is solved. Prizes for correctly solving the mystery and for best costume. Tickets at $85 + tax are available at the Tallman Reservation Desk (707) 275-2244 ext. 0.
