The 1972 sci-fi drama, “Slaughterhouse-Five,” starring Michael Sacks and Valerie Perrine, screens at the Soper Reese Theatre on Tuesday, November 28, at 1:00 and 6:00 pm. Entry to the film is by donation. Adapted from Kurt Vonnegut’s novel and directed by George Roy Hill, the film blurs the line between fantasy and reality, causing the story’s hero, Billy Pilgrim, to time-jump between Earth and the alien planet Trafalmador as a way to gain understanding of the meaning of life. Pilgrim moves through the story as a passive observer, experiencing the firebombing of Dresden in World War II, and his own capture and display in a zoo. Vonnegut fans will be pleased with Hill’s adept translation of the existential novel to the screen. The movie is sponsored by Jim Aldrich. Rated R with run time of 1 hour 44 minutes. The Soper Reese Theatre is located at 275 S. Main St., Lakeport, 707-263-0577, soperreesetheatre.com.
