Abstract: Climate change is intimately connected with just about every aspect of our lives now, from intrusion into politics, to economics, health, the food on our table, and of course the weather—unprecedented fires, floods, and hurricanes. But we all have a piece of the puzzle, so can step up and do something about it.
Bio: In 2012 Shelly trained directly with former Vice President Al Gore at his Climate Reality Project. The CRP educates citizens on the urgent reality of climate change and advocates for clean alternatives to fossil fuels. After over two years living and educating on these issues in Costa Rica, she moved to Lake County. She has lectured at Chabot Space & Science Center in Oakland, the California Academy of Sciences, the Lawrence Hall of Science in Berkeley and the San Diego Wild Animal Park. Shelly has a BA in Restoration Ecology from UC Santa Cruz, and an MA in Museum Education on the topic “Educating the Public about Global Warming.”
Telescopic observing: In clear weather we’ll enjoy telescopic views from the Nieman Star Deck. A waxing moon and Jupiter are beautifully oriented just 3 degrees apart high in the southern sky. Views along the moon’s terminator should be stunning.
