Description
Each year in the winter and spring, the Tallman Hotel hosts an intimate series of Sunday afternoon “Concerts with Conversation.” The shows feature some of the best musicians in Northern California and beyond in the lovely, informal setting of the Meeting House next to the Hotel. The events run from 3:00 to 4:30 in the afternoon, offering plenty of time for a late lunch or early dinner at the Blue Wing Restaurant. Tickets at $30 + tax can be purchased online at EVENTBRITE.COM or by calling the Tallman Hotel at (707) 275-2244 ext. 0.
The February show features old-time Americana music at its best with MACY BLACKMAN AND THE MIGHTY FINES, with Bing Nathan on bass and the truly amazing NANCY WRIGHT on sax.
About the Artists:
Hearing Macy Blackman at the piano is like stepping into an uptown New Orleans club circa 1955. He’s been into this music since before graduating from NYU with a music degree in 1970. A renowned musicologist, Macy moved to San Francisco in 2000 to teach courses at UC Berkeley. He soon drifted back to his roots in New Orleans R&B and formed The Mighty Fines in 2003. That band has recorded 4 CDs including the most recent titled Shoorah Shoorah – The Songs of Irma Thomas and Allen Toussaint.
Sax mistress Nancy Wright needs no introduction to Lake County music fans as she’s performed here at the Blue Wing Blues Festival and a variety of other venues. She has recorded and performed in the U.S. and abroad with artists including John Lee Hooker, B. B. King, Elvin Bishop, Joe Louis Walker, and Commander Cody and she now has her own “Rhythm and Roots” Band.
